Independence Day in the Capitol!

This weekend DC was a very busy city. Thousands of tourists traveled to the city and especially the water front. Mainly to watch the beautiful fire works display. We were lucky we just sat in our cockpit for a front row seat. The picture above doesn't do justice to the beauty of the display. The show went on for 17 minutes and ended in a grand finally. The anchorage was packed with anchored boats seeking an unobstructed view. The music and festivities at shore started around 1PM in the afternoon and continued for some time after the fireworks ended. The air temperature steadily rose all week after a cool beginning. It made for a steamy 4th of July. It was not only very warm but noisy for the entire day. I can't remember the last time I witnessed this much of a celebration over the 4th of July.

This is our little friend India from the boat next door. She joined us on our boat to watch the fire works.

We both have been keeping very busy and it felt good to have an extra day off with the holiday but we worked doing boat jobs and laundry and errands so it went buy fast without any breaks and now it's back to work tomorrow.

Saturday we went for a ride in the dinghy. It felt good to be out on the water even though it was in the dinghy and not our sailboat. We may pick up a small fishing boat to use while we are in DC. That is if one presents itself at a much reduced rate of exchange. If not the dinghy will have to do.

Two weekends ago we played tourist again and visited the Natural History Museum. We also visited the Folk Life Festival on the Mall. I have put some new pictures up on Flickr. Be sure to click on the link at the right of the page to view them. I'll be gradually adding pictures now that I'm getting my albums organized on my computer.

Well it's getting late and it's off to work tomorrow so I'll sign off for now.
