We arrived at the Visitors Center on the Dismal Swamp about 3 PM, Thursday December 1. We tied up on the wall and spent the night. This visitors center was like the ones on the Thruway and was shared by the auto traffic on RT# 17 and the boat traffic on the canal. Riding down the canal was like stepping back in time. It reminded me some of the movie Deliverance but that's another story. We thought we would be the only boat going south this late in the year. It is amazing how many are still in transit. The weather has put many delays on the ability to move.

Several years ago, having ventured out of Canada by car, I tried to find the "Swamp". Unless they have improved the signage markedly (ie. put one up) there won't be many cars. Circling the entire area by map, I asked directions (probably near Tenessee) from a fellow in a rocking chair in the middle of nowhere and found it after "Going south aways, turn near Freds...". It was well worht the trip! Really looking forward to your adventures there!
