Moving again!

Another sunrise. After staying docked in Dowery Creek for two days while we did laundry and provisioned and Larry worked we were underway just before 7:00 this morning.

All was going well, the winds were right for sailing. We put out the jib sail and after making a turn on the Pungo River we furled out our main. At least we attempted to. We have in mast furling but didn't get the right tension on the sail when we furled it in on the Chesapeake Bay coming down to Deltaville. It jamed in the track. We got that sorted out for the most part. Then we started on our route and the clew blew out with a loud bang. The clew is held on by nylon straps sewn to the sail and threaded through a metal piece called an out haul. No fixing this on the water. So much for a peaceful day of sailing, without the iron jenny.

Larry got on the internet, what did we do before the internet, and searched for a sail loft in Oriental, NC our next port. He found one near the harbor, Hodges Street Sail Repair. So much for finding an anchorage for the night. We needed to be in town so the sail loft could pick up our sail and give us an estimate.

The weather also again was a factor determining if we anchored or not. Two huge cells for thunderstorms were hovering over both sides of the Neuse River where we would end up at Oriential.

When we got to the dock and tied up we took the sail to the parking lot to meet the sail repair guy. After they checked the sail over and told us what it needed our estimate came to $375. What's a few more dollars! At Least it's not a boat unit ($1,000). They will should be able to finish the repair tomorrow and we can be in our way again on Sunday. Hopefully this will be the last of our surprises this trip.

Ducks in a line as we are leaving the Marina this morning.

A sailboat sailing along with us as we were approaching Oriential. You can see the threatening sky behind them. It was actually raining on the shore behind them.

Lots of thunderheads.

Me enjoying a margarita at the Marina bar with Larry.
