The first weekend of the cherry blossoms we took a walk around the Tidal Basin to enjoy the trees in bloom. Most of them were quite full but some still had a ways to go.
The festival is about two full weeks encompassing three weekends with different events going on each weekend. The first weekend suffered from some cold windy weather but no where near as much as the second weekend. This past Saturday was cold and windy with thunderstorms. Here at the waterfront musical bands and vendors we set up for a day of festivities to end at dusk with fireworks. The music was intermitant between the storms and we watched the fire works from inside our enclosed cockpit, it was too cold to be out on the sea wall. Friends here at the club told us how last year you could hardly move on the sidewalk for all the visitors, not so this year.
Today we are having high winds that are blowing the blossoms into the water. Who knows if any blossoms will be left for next weekend. I feel sorry for the visitors to DC with all the rain and cold weather we have been having.
I've included some pictures of our walk around the Tidal Basin two weekends ago and of our walk to the National Mall this past Sunday.
