Motorcycle Ride to Fredericksburg, VA

Yesterday, Saturday we decided to take a motorcycle ride to Fredericksburg, Va. Out of the three days Larry was off for the weekend Saturday was the best day for a ride. The temperature was good, not too hot and became increasingly more pleasant as the morning wore on and the sun rose higher in the sky. We took the long way though the countryside, it makes for a more pleasant drive. We followed route 301 over the bridge from Maryland to Virginia.

When we arrived at Ferry Farm, the boyhood home of President George Washington, the sun was strong and warmed us from the cool morning air. We first entered the visitors center and checked in. After a tour of the center we went outside to view the site on which GW's plantation once stood. In 2008 after many geological exploration digs the actual foundation of the main house was discovered. The future plan of the historical society is to rebuild the plantation as it once looked when the Washington's lived there.

The farm gets it's name, Ferry Farm, from the ferry that once operated to take travelers across the Potomac River. It was located on the North side of the Potomac River at the base of the farm. We were standing just above this site when I took this picture. You can see by the leaves on the trees that Virginia is deep into the Fall season. With the Fall season in full swing the days are shorter and the evenings cool down quickly. We decided to not stay too late and left to return to DC around 3PM and  arrived back in DC around 5PM.

We are already making plans for next weekend if the weather cooperates!
